What are the things need to checked and maintained in an aquarium?
1) PH level
2) Temperature
3) Ammonium level
4) Nitrite level
Nitrate level can also be monitored, but it is not so critical as above. A partial water change (20 - 25% of water volume) weekly can bring the nitrate level to acceptable one.
